Who the heck is the old geezer on the logo?
John Brown was the famous abolitionist whose independent action at Harpers Ferry was credited with helping to start the American Civil War. John Brown had a farm in Lake Placid and was buried there after he was executed. The logo of the Lake Placid International Regatta shows John Brown, borrowed from a well known depiction, holding a wing blade with Whiteface Mountain in the background (we left out the bible and thunderclouds). While in Lake Placid, you can visit John Brown's farm and grave (a New York State historical site) near the ski jumps.
